Revelations 21:4 says "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death; nor sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain, for the former things are passed away." Be assured that in the days ahead you will surely gain strength from the memories of Mr. Charles Holloway, Sr.

Reverend Charles Holloway, Sr. was born on March 2nd, 1946, the oldest child of the late Samuel Holloway and Elizabeth Ellis. He was granted his angel wings on January 15th, 2021. Charles was preceded in death by his Parents and Brother Wayne Holloway.

He accepted Christ at an early age. Charles acknowledged his call to preach at Leach Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal (CME) under the leadership of the late Rev. Clinton Washington.

Charles married his high school sweetheart, Brenda Gray. He and Brenda enjoyed 53 years of marriage. To this union, two loving children were born. He enjoyed sharing God’s word and spending time with family and friends.

As a music enthusiast, he enjoyed performing and listening to music that soothed the souls. Prior to his calling to preach the gospel, Charles was a member of a local rhythm and blues band called the Lyrics. The Lyrics was a highly respected band performing on the historical West Ninth Street in Little Rock. They also performed at most of the colleges and universities in the state, including Shorter College, Philander Smith College and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. After his calling to the ministry, he became a founding member of the Gospel Lyrics. Charles has since performed with several local talented musicians as a part of his ministry. He was always a man of character and integrity.

Charles pastored several CME churches during his service. Of these churches, he pastored Saint James located in Conway, Arkansas for over a decade. Under his leadership, a new facility was constructed. Charles retired as Pastor of New Hope located in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.

He graduated in the class of 1964 from Scipio A. Jones High School located in North Little Rock, Arkansas, where he played in the band and developed his life-long love of music. Rev. Holloway was an accomplished percussionist and was featured as one of Scipio A. Jones High School’s graduates in the People’s Tribute article written by Raymond Smith in October 2013. He also received his Bachelor’s degree from Baptist College.

He retired from the State of Arkansas as a Juvenile Detention professional at Alexander Youth Services. Over the years, Rev. Holloway influenced and served as mentors to many. You would often find him laughing, talking, praying and ministering to the needs of others while giving encouraging words and scriptures for healing and hope. He was a man on the move. He loved walking and community outreach (keeping the Glenview community clean & picking up trash while sharing the word of God).

Those left to cherish precious memories and legacy include: his loving wife, Brenda Gray Holloway; son, Charles Holloway Jr. (Rhonda) of Conway, Arkansas; daughter, Angela Holloway of North Little Rock, Arkansas; two granddaughters, Christyal Holloway and Madison Holloway; sisters Charlotte Holloway Thomas (Curtis-deceased), Mary Watson, Fannie Jones (Bernard) and Sharon Watkins (Keith) all of North Little Rock, Arkansas; and a host of relatives, friends and loved ones.

Walk through visitation will be held Friday, January 22, 2021 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at St. James Christian Methodist Episcopal (CME) Church, 1304 Markham St. Conway, Arkansas.

Celebration of life service will be held Saturday, January 23, 2021, 2:00pm at Arkansas Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 8507 AR-161, North Little Rock, Arkansas.
