Hazel Franklin-Garrison was born on April 28, 1924, in Moffett, Oklahoma and passed away on Friday February 28, 2025, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Known for her sense of style, beautiful smile, and unwavering strength; Hazel touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. She dedicated many years to caring for children in the community, where she was recognized for her nurturing heart. The Lord blessed her with three (3) beautiful daughters, Laverne, Rebecca and Carolyn. Carolyn preceded her mother in death at an early age.
Hazel was loved by those she knew her; and was an amazing woman that captured many hearts! She was phenomenal and such a great person, who will be truly missed. She was at Chapel Ridge Nursing Home for over nineteen (19) years, and during her stay there; she developed a bond with Wardell Flurry. The employees that cared for her, referred to her as a “firecracker” and didn’t mind expressing herself if she felt offended; but was sweet and loving and such a “doll” when she wasn’t fired up! Although Hazel was known for her straight-forward and candid nature; she found her way in her own time. She departed this life with peace in her heart, secure in the knowledge that the Lord was her Shepherd and her guide.
Mother Hazel loved sewing, dipping snuff, eating peppermints and watching Wheel of Fortune! She would often sit and reminisce about her daughters and how much she missed seeing them.
She leaves behind a legacy of forgiveness, hard work, and perseverance. Although she is no longer with us, her memory lives on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to share in her journey. Her life will forever be celebrated and cherished by those who loved her.
Hazel leaves to cherish her memories, her daughters: Laverne Garrison of Van Buren, Arkansas and Rebecca “Becky” Garrison of Barling, Arkansas. Her godchildren: Patrick, Estella, Leola, Lemuel, Glynis Parks, Keith, Keesha, Mary Moreland, Roderick Gilyard, Alonda Jordan of Fort Smith and Shawna Jordan, Michael Jordan and Flordean Smith all of Little Rock, Arkansas.
Visitation for family and friends will be Monday March 10, 2025, 5:00pm to 6:00pm Rowell-Parish Morturary 611 North 9th Street Fort Smith, Arkansas 72901.
Graveside service will be Tuesday March 11, 2025, 11:00am Shady Grove Cemetery 111945 S. 4780 Road in Roland, Oklahoma 74954.
