Imogene’s earthly temple is now resting in the care of Rowell-Parish Mortuary. Revelations 21:4 says "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death; nor sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain, for the former things are passed away." Be assured that in the days ahead you will surely gain strength from the memories of Mother Imogene Dickerson.

Imogene Dickerson was truly a blessing given from God to the late Palmer and Demetrius (Berry) Carter on Sunday, October 26, 1930 in Charleston, Arkansas. She was blessed by God to enter into her eternal rest on the morning of Thursday, February 18, 2021. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Foster Dickerson, Jr.; three sons, Barry Eugene, Albert Lawrence “Fats” and Steve Allen Dickerson; a sister, Alene Burton, and a brother Jimmy Carter.
Imogene attended Rosenwald Elementary School in Charleston, Arkansas and she attended Lincoln High School in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She obeyed the Gospel and was baptized at Ninth Street Church of Christ. She was a faithful member until her health prevented her from attending services. She met and married the love of her life Foster Dickerson, Jr. and together they were fortunate to have six children.
Imogene served and worked in many different areas. She loved children and they also loved her. She worked some services as a volunteer at the YWCA, local schools, churches, the Salvation Army, Lincoln Daycare, and the Mallalieu Center. She also taught crafts classes, ceramics, and worked for the University of Arkansas Extension Services of Fort Smith, Barling, and Greenwood Court Houses, Mellie’s Beauty College, Heart Fund, Elizabeth McGill Center, Ben Geren Park, Interfaith Center, and Rowell-Parish Mortuary.
Imogene loved helping Seniors with their business and daily paperwork, grocery shopping, and transportation. She also helped with delivering groceries to the sick and shut-in and cooking for anyone in need throughout the community. To God be the Glory for all the wonderful things she has done!!! She will be greatly missed, but never forgotten, by all who loved and appreciated her so dearly in life.
Imogene will be forever cherished and remembered by her other children, Deborah Elaine Jackson of Bossier City, Louisiana, Pamela Anne Dickerson of Fort Smith, Arkansas and Michael Wayne Dickerson (Shirley) of Marietta, Georgia, a daughter-in-law, Lejuana Dickerson of Fort Smith, Arkansas; a sister, Bernice Giddens of Fort Smith, Arkansas, fifteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and a host of other family members and friends.
Visitation will be Monday, March 1, 2021 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Rowell-Parish Mortuary, 611 North 9th Street Fort Smith, Arkansas 72901.
Celebration of life service will be held Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Ninth Street Church of Christ, 1930 North 9th Street Fort Smith, Arkansas 72904.
Committal service and final resting place will be at the Fort Smith National Cemetery Fort Smith, Arkansas.
In lieu of flowers and food, the family is requesting all donations go to a Memorial Fund for Mother Imogene Dickerson at First National Bank.
