In profound sadness, the staff of Veasley Funeral Home & Cremations, Inc. want to express our sincere condolences to the Atchison family. James’ earthly temple is now resting in the care of Rowell-Parish Mortuary. Revelations 21:4 says "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death; nor sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain, for the former things are passed away." Be assured that in the days ahead you will surely gain strength from the memories of Mr. James Atchison, Sr.

James Atchison, Sr. was a gift from God given to the late Joann Atchison Campbell on February 6, 1956 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was called to take his eternal rest on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 from Springdale, Arkansas. He is also preceded in death by a brother, Frank Campbell.

James attended the Fort Smith Public School System, Howard Elementary and Darby Junior High Schools. He dearly loved his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He loved cooking, drawing, reading and a good basketball game. He was a smart man, who was also kind, friendly, and out-going person. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved throughout his life.

James will be forever cherished and remembered by his two sons, Karl (Tamaria) Atchison of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and James Atchison, Jr. of Little Rock, Arkansas; his step-father, Cleveland Campbell, Sr. of Fort Smith, Arkansas; six brothers, Ronnie Campbell of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Cleveland Campbell, Jr. of Springdale, Arkansas, Charles (Tina) Campbell of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Craig Campbell, Carl (Yolonda) Campbell, and Walter Robertson all three of Fort Smith, Arkansas; four sisters, Sophia Robertson of Houston, Texas, Olivia and Melissa Robertson both of Fort Smith and Demetrius Nelson of Russellville, Arkansas; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, other family members, and friends.


Visitation will be Monday, March 22, 2021 from 12 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Rowell-Parish Mortuary 611 North 9th Street Fort Smith, Arkansas 72901.


Celebration of life service will be held Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at 11 a.m. at First Church of God in Christ 2037 North 14th Street Fort Smith, Arkansas 72904.
