Valenia Marie Weathersby (46), was born on January 18, 1978, to the late Elijah Weathersby and the late Brenda Smith in New Orleans, Louisiana.  She passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2024, in Tulsa, Oklahoma due to heart failure.  She grew up in Louisiana and touched the lives of many with her “vibrant personality” and her “compassionate spirit”.

Valenia was a graduate of Frederick A. Douglass High School in New Orleans, Louisiana (Class of ’96) and carried the spirit of her education throughout her life.  She dedicated her life to nurturing young minds as a Preschool Teacher and caring for individuals with intellectual developmental disabilities. Her commitment to her profession was paralleled by her dedication to her faith.

In August 2005 Valenia was forced to pack-up and relocate to Fort Smith due to Hurricane Katrina, where she met the late Pastor Gary Hinkle and the late Virginia Hinkle, along with Anna Jo Jones, and they became her extended family.  She accepted Christ at a very early age and was baptized at St. James Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Gary Lee Hinkle, Sr., where she actively participated in many ministries at the church.

Valenia’s passions included listening to “loud” music, dancing, watching movies, and most importantly; spending time with her family.  Her laughter and energy was the heart of any gathering.

She leaves to cherish her memories:  One (1) daughter:  Alexis Marie Weathersby; one (1) brother:  Leonard Smith of New Orleans, Louisiana; seven (7) sisters:  Sharon Smith, Veronica Smith, Charlene Weathersby, Lisa Smith, Fellicia Smith and Linda (Isaac) Caston all of Louisiana; and Chanelle Dailet of Houston, Texas.

Along with nieces, nephews, other family, friends and extended family.

Memorial Celebration will be held Saturday September 7, 2024; 11:00 A.M. at King Solomon Missionary Baptist Church 3509 Johnson St., Fort Smith, Arkansas.
